What size shelves do you have?
Is it strong enough?
- The system is only as strong as the wall/floor/ceiling to which it is attached
- The metal shelves are designed to carry books and files. A DJ told us that it was the first system he'd ever had that held his entire vinyl LP collection without collapsing
- Cabinets are not designed to be similarly strong. The top surfaces are not intended to be load-bearing - they are for the finer objects in your life
How much weight can I put on a shelf?
- We do not quote specific loading figures as so much depends on the construction of walls floors and ceilings; the type of fixings used; and how well the system is installed
- Assuming a solid wall, rigid floor, solid ceiling and professional installation using proprietary fixings, the metal shelves will comfortably cater for large books from end-to-end
- The short shelf (65.5cm) is stronger than the 90cm shelf
- As the shallower metal shelves are stronger than the deeper shelves, it is always best if you can fit your items on the shallowest shelf possible. Do not be lazy and opt for all shelves at the same - deeper - depth because you cannot be bothered to check the sizes of a few of your books
How much weight can I put on a cabinet?
- Not much. The top of the cabinet is for the finer objects in your life
- If you need to put weight above a cabinet, use a metal shelf in the third clear hole above the cabinet
How much weight can I put IN a cabinet?
- Subject to our normal restrictions of your system having been professionally installed using the correct fixings, we quote the following weight restrictions, for our cabinets only. These weights do not apply to shelf loadings.
- Cabinet with three drawers - 15kg per drawer
- Cabinet with two drawers - 20kg per drawer
- Cabinet with one drawer - 25kg per drawer
- In reality, the above means that you can fill the one drawer cabinet with suspension files containing paper.
- However, you are restricted to a maximum of 15 bottles of wine/spirits in the one drawer cabinet.
Is it easy to move the shelves?
- Yes. No tools are needed other than some patience whilst you develop the knack
- Always empty the shelf you are moving as well as any immediately adjacent shelves
- Preferably use another pin to help you push the relevant pin to one side while you taking the weight of the shelf at the front bottom corner
- This is an adjustable system where owners really do move the shelves around rather than leave them 'fixed' for evermore
Can I turn a shelf upside down?
- Very perceptive question. By reversing a shelf, a number of possibilities are created:
- firstly, the shelf ends are now pointing downwards which means that adjacent reversed shelves form a continuous flat surface rather than being interrupted by shelf ends
- secondly, a reversed shelf above a regular shelf forms a 'box' which can be excellent for preventing books/files/records from falling over
- thirdly, the back lip of the shelf now points down, which allows printers etc to span two shelves on a double-sided system
What size shelves do you have?
- Two widths (left-to-right) of 65.5 and 90cm
- Four depths (front-to-back) of 16, 22, 30 and 36cm
- 16cm for paperback, CD, video, DVD
- 22cm for most hardbacks - up to the size of a phone book
- 30cm for files and larger square format books
- 36cm is only needed for vinyl LPs (must be 65.5cm width) and exceptionally large books
