Do I need a wall?
- Not necessarily. The system can be compressed between the floor and ceiling
Is my wall suitable?
- Normally, yes
- We fix to modern 12.5mm plasterboard walls every day of the week using the best fixings that are available
- Brick, concrete or block walls are best
- Crumbly lath and plaster walls are the worst but the system can usually still cope by sharing its load between the wall, floor and ceiling
- Uneven walls can normally be avoided using the semi-wall mounted system
- If in doubt, ask us
Will the shelves fit my wall space?
- For a wall mounted system, measure the width and height of your wall - above the skirting. Subtract 7cm from your width dimension to allow for ease of installation. Now combine 66.7 and 91.2cm to achieve the best fit for your space.
- For semi-wall mounted, measure the width of your wall on the floor (between skirting) as well as the wall. Subtract 13cm to allow for the floor plates to fit. Combine 66.7 and 91.2cm to achieve the best fit for your space.
Can I just roughly measure my space?
- If you can let us know roughly what you have in mind (digital photographs and/or drawings help greatly) and we will then work with you to plan the system precisely.
How does it fix to the wall?
- The wall mounted system fixes to the wall via aluminium E-Tracks. These can be screwed to a solid wall using 50mm screws driven into plastic wall plugs in 64mm diameter holes. Normally we use a 50mm length screw.
- We have wide experience attaching into plasterboard and other similar hollow walls. Our installers carry many different fixings and we will be pleased to supply these directly to you to allow you to install the system yourself. If in doubt, please ask us for advice.
I can't attach anything to the wall - what do I do?
- Use the compressed structure
- You can compress the system in front of a wall to a maximum ceiling height of 240cm
- Alternatively, use the compressed system away from a wall with shelves on both sides (double-sided)
- If necessary, add stabilising feet to a compressed system to give more support
Should I use wall mounted or semi-wall mounted?
- If your wall is straight and solid, and you do not need to put bulky TVs/monitors on the shelves, you have no need to consider semi-wall mounted - other than for aesthetic reasons.
- However, if your wall is uneven or you need to gain extra depth for your computer monitor, then opt for semi-wall mounted.
- Remember that a wall mounted system can be converted into a semi-wall mounted system in the future by adding X-Posts, cross rails and wall brackets.
My wall has obstructions - is this a problem?
- No. The beauty of the semi-wall mounted structure is that it stands in front of obstructions.
- Our long wall brackets can allow the system to be 11.5cm from the wall - we can even do longer by special request.
Is my wall/floor/ceiling strong enough?
- The system is only as strong as the wall/floor on which it is relying
- Hence, a wall mounted system is only as strong as the wall whilst a semi-wall mounted system relies on both a rigid floor and a good wall
- The compressed system relies more on the floor than the ceiling: a rigid floor with a plasterboard ceiling is usually fine whilst a flexible floor with a solid ceiling is not

Can I have shelves where I have a radiator?
- Yes. Wall mounted can be planned around or above the radiator
- But semi-wall mounted can often be stood in front of a radiator using long wall brackets to tie back to the wall above the obstruction
My wall isn't straight - is this a problem?
- No. The semi-wall mounted structure is attached to the wall via adjustable wall brackets which allow tolerances of 6cm to be accommodated
- Within reason, you can even sail the system past an alcove by allowing one or two posts to be compressed between the floor and ceiling without attachment to the wall
Can I have screens/panels?
- Yes. These can be used with any system that employs X-Posts. They are made to order from toughened glass, laminate covered MDF, steel or acrylic. Contact us for more details
Can I use it as a room divider?
- Yes. Its brilliant in this guise
- First, compress the X-Posts between the floor and ceiling. Then add as many shelves and cabinets as you like to create a more or less solid division
- We can even put panels (steel/acrylic/glass/laminate) between the X-Posts if you like - contact us for more details
